Cat's Tongue
Cat's tongue is a very interesting part of their anatomy. It's evenly covered with tiny "spikes" - papillae 😼
The papillae in the center of the tongue are longer than those on the sides, but all of them are covered with a strong keratinous layer, making the cat's tongue so rough ⬇️
Cat care, the cat's tongue is highly optimized for hunting. When cats catch prey, the papillae on their tongue literally help them strip flesh from bones, extracting the maximum amount of food from their prey.
Cats use their tongue for grooming. The rigid papillae on the tongue act as a real comb: helping to untangle fur and get rid of mats. However, the inability to spit out fur stuck on the tongue leads to the formation of hairballs in the stomach. For this reason, it's unsafe for cats to play with various threads,Cat Care, like Christmas tinsel, as it's almost certain to be swallowed and cause problems.
Cat's tongue has several hundred taste receptors, which help them detect different tastes.
Cats can distinguish salty, sour, bitter, umami, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) tastes. But cats lack taste receptors for recognizing sweet taste.
Researchers believe this peculiarity is due to the fact that cats simply don't need to recognize the taste of sweet food since their diet consists mainly of meat.
❗️ The color of the tongue can be an indicator of a cat's health. Normally, it's always pink. If the tongue turns bluish, grayish, dark red, or if spots appear on it that weren't there before, it may indicate health problems and requires veterinary attention.Your cat care.
